Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 400 to 600 CE. Pottery stirrup spout vessel depicting a warrior holding a club, seated on the vessel’s bulbous body. Highly decorated, the warrior is wearing a conical helmet and broad collar with a long angular back-splash suspended at the center rear of his belt. He presents an expressive visage with wide-open almond-shaped eyes, a protruding curved nose, and a serious downturned mouthed grimace with abstract geometric facial tattoos. Overall, the vessel is painted with black and white highlights and a red-brown ground. A fabulous example from the Moche! Size: 7.25" L x 8.5" H (18.4 cm x 21.6 cm)
