Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 500 to 800 CE. A fabulous hollow-built and highly-burnished terracotta woman standing upon delineated legs and broad feet. She presents nude while holding her arms to her abdomen, with incised bangles adorning her wrists, and an elaborate collar surrounding her neck and upper chest. Her striking visage is composed of recessed almond-shaped eyes beneath thin brows, a prominent nose, thin lips above a rounded chin, and broad ears with piercings meant for additional ornamentation. Red-orange slip covers the entire figure, and some recessed or incised areas are accentuated with white pigment. Size: 5.625" W x 10.875" H (14.3 cm x 27.6 cm).
