Description:

Pre-Columbian, north coast Peru, Moche, Phase V, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished bi-chrome pottery vessel with a recessed program of abstract zoomorphic creatures along the sloped shoulder. The vessel features a flat base, a bowl-shaped lower body adorned with broad geometric motifs, a smooth top section, and a bow-legged handle surmounted in the middle by a tapered spout. White pigment is applied within the recessed decorations and enables the details to stand out against the orange-slipped surfaces. Size: 5.4" W x 8.2" H (13.7 cm x 20.8 cm)
