Description:

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1070 BCE. A wonderful faience scarab covered in a fine layer of turquoise-hued glaze. The topside of the ovoid amulet exhibits characteristic insectile features such as laterally-notched elytra, slender legs, and a frilled clypeus, and a suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body. The underside is decorated with expertly-carved hieroglyphs representing ankhs, nefer, and knots, with a lateral stripe separating the 2 halves, and a lobed border surrounding. Size: 0.93" L x 0.64" W x 0.43" H (2.4 cm x 1.6 cm x 1.1 cm)
