Pre-Columbian, South America, Colombia to Ecuador, Carchi Province / Narino Highlands, Narino-Capuli & Carchi-Tuza culture, ca. 750 to 1500 CE. A striking pair of pottery bowls with short feet, each showcasing the bold painted traditions of the Narino highlands. One bowl, in the Tuza style, is divided into red and cream ground panels, the interior painted with a stylized anthropomorphic warrior rendered in abstract geometric form. The companion bowl employs the negative-resist technique, its black surface decorated with radiating bands of dots, linear designs, and monkey figures. Size of Tuza bowl: 6.5" diameter x 3.25" H (16.5 cm x 8.3 cm).

Provenance: private Burbank, Illinois, USA collection via inheritance 2024, acquired between 1970s to 2000s
