Pre-Columbian, Ecuador / Columbia, Narino culture, ca. 1250-1500 CE. Beautiful polychrome ceramic pedestal bowl. The composition of the interior is segmented into quadrants, two opposing ones feature four climbing monkeys, the other pair of opposing segments are adorned with stylized mountainous landscape scenes, all in a bichrome finish of red on cream background. 7-1/2D (19 cm) x 3-3/4"H (9.5 cm). Provenance: Ex-J. Gonzalez private collection, PA, acquired in 1980s.
