Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi) region, Narino Highlands, ca. 1250 CE. A beautiful hand-built pottery bowl with deep walls on a concave ring base, the interior adorned via negative resist with a decorative register of seven abstract avian figures, each one standing on slender legs atop a beige-hued ring. A pair of concentric rings decorate the middle of the tondo, with a five-pointed star in the center and three lines in the spaces between each arm. Though the majority of the exterior is undecorated, the foot is embellished with a thin band of red pigment. This beautiful iconographic program is rendered in an attractive color palette of red and beige on a chocolate-brown ground. Size: 8.25" W x 3.25" H (21 cm x 8.3 cm).
