Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi), Narino Highlands, ca. 1250 CE. A fabulous and highly-burnished pottery bowl with deep walls on a concave ring base. The interior is adorned with a decorative register of six zoomorphic figures via the negative resist technique. The exterior of the bowl is adorned with abstract, multi-lobed geometric designs in red and tan hues atop a chocolate-brown ground. The animals surrounding the interior have lengthy bodies, four bent legs, and amusing faces, with each situated atop the top red circle of a concentric ring design. A wonderful example of ancient Narino artistry! Size: 6.25" W x 2.75" H (15.9 cm x 7 cm).
