Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador/Colombia, Carchi-Narino, Capuli Complex, ca. 850 to 1200 CE. A lovely hand-built terracotta bowl with a flaring foot, a shallow dish, and a thin rim. Its interior and exterior are detailed with abstract linear motifs in the signature Narino negative-resist technique. The interior is divided by thin red lines into eight quadrants; these form a symmetrical, zoomorphic motif with staring eyes around a center of stepped triangles that resemble pyramids. The exterior features a beautiful starfish or seven-pointed star motif created with thin cream-colored lines. Size: 9" W x 3.45" H (22.9 cm x 8.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA collection; ex-Ramon Heinz collection, ex-Howard Nowes
