Native American, Sugar Creek, Lauderdale County, Alabama, Early Archaic period, ca. 9500 to 8500 BP (7000 BCE). An unsharpened triangular corner notch point of the symmetrical form known as Lost Lake. The shoulders are barbed, with a distinctive rounded appearance. The stem is slightly expanded, with a slightly concave base. This point has a high quality of workmanship, as do many from Lost Lake. This example is made of heat-treated jasper with a pale reddish-grey color and was found near the southern range of the form, which covered much of the modern US South, extending almost as far north as Lake Erie. Size: 4" L x 2.25" W (10.2 cm x 5.7 cm)
