Description:

United States, Sacramento, California, ca. early 21st century for its discovery, hundreds of millions of years old for its creation. In a word, WOW! The California gold rush got its start at Sutter Creek, near Sacramento in 1848. That gold rush continues to this day as people are still mining for and finding amazing examples of "native" gold. This is a large chunk of quartz matrix to which emerges the most beautiful gold crystals. Because the quartz is the majority of this example it is impossible to determine the weight of the gold, but as a geological specimen, and a natural piece of art, it's weight in beauty is immense! Size: 2.125" W x 1" H (5.4 cm x 2.5 cm); gold quality: 88% (equivalent to over 21 karats); weight: 59.5 grams

This piece has been tested using XRF technology. The gold has been determined to be approximately 90% pure gold along with 10% silver as is almost always the case. One reason that ancient gold objects always contain silver is because there was smelting technology could not completely separate the two.
