Native American, Southwestern United States, Dine (Navajo), ca. 1970s. century CE. Beautiful Native American concho belt with medallions made from sterling and high quality silver, inlaid with polished turquoise stones, and set on a luxury Barry Kieselstein-Cord belt strap. There are 9 large ovoid concha medallions with scalloped edges and 9 butterfly shaped panels, each with blue-green cabochons. The buckle is stamped "JW MS" which is the mark of Navajo silversmith Juliana Williams and her sister-in-law, Martha Smiley who were active in the 1970s. The conchas may have been strung on the Kieselstein-Cord originally, or as a later replacement. The belt is wearable and in excellent condition.
