Lot 90B
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Ixtlan del Rio, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-modeled, polychrome female kneeling figure painted in red, cream, and black hues with a characteristically elongated head presenting an expressive visage comprised of coffee bean shaped eyes, a prominent curved nose, and a slightly parted mouth that is adorned with a painted red headband, a red nose ring, and red shell-shaped ear ornaments. Her body is exaggeratedly wide with attenuated arms, small nubbin breasts, and delineated female genitalia. She wears a red striated garment. The black markings may indicate additional tattooing or body paint; however many are manganese deposits. A wonderful example from this shaft tomb culture. Size: 5.75" W x 9.5" H (14.6 cm x 24.1 cm)
