Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A seated ceramic figure, knees raised and hands - fingers neatly delineated - resting on the kneecaps. The figure leans forward, with an exaggeratedly large head with a large forehead and a spiked crest around the back of the head. Decorative arm bands are around the figure's upper arms; otherwise the figure is nude. Its face is its most interesting feature - with large eyes narrowed to slits as if squinting at something, a huge nose, and a relatively petite mouth. Size: 3.25" W x 3.75" H (8.3 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
