Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An interesting example of a musician, hand-built from pottery, and painted with vibrant red, yellow, and brown pigments. The figure sits in a cross-legged position while wearing short pants and a waist band, displays a pair of arm bands above each bent elbow, and dons a multi-stranded necklace with a circular medallion around his neck. A diagonally-striated pan flute is held to his lips, and the puffy cheeks suggest he is actively playing the instrument. Ovoid eyes, a prominent, ring-adorned nose, and tall ears bedecked with earrings comprise the expressive countenance, and a striped headdress with a frilled finial sits low on the forehead. Size: 4.1" W x 6.5" H (10.4 cm x 16.5 cm).
