Lot 89D
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A seated redware pottery figure engaged in either a smoking or drinking activity and donning an impressive headdress, round ear ornaments, and nose ring. The sculptor skillfully rendered this gent to lean over and hold a tubular implement, perhaps a pipe or a straw with sits inside a round vessel, to his mouth. His cheeks are puffed, suggesting that he is either smoking or drinking. Quite an intriguing scene of an everyday or perhaps ceremonial activity. Size: 3.5" W x 5" H (8.9 cm x 12.7 cm)
