Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca to Huari/Wari, ca. 500 to 700 CE. A hollow-form, polychrome female figure, depicted in the nude and standing on both feet (notice the painted toes), with her hands placed over her chest, perhaps a gesture of prayer. Also notable is her expressive visage with wide-open eyes, slender brows above, streaming tears below, a pronounced protruding nose, pursed lips, and tab-shaped ears, all topped by a long brunette coiffure falling to the middle of her back. A wonderful example from the ancients of the Americas, perhaps a fertility figure or a praying idol. Size: 5.75" H (14.6 cm); 6.125" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-T. Misenhimer collection, Beverly Hills, California, USA, collected from 1970-2008
