Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 500 CE. A wonderful pottery bowl hand-painted with the image of a supernatural being. The vessel has a slightly rounded base and a shallow basin; the exterior rim is slipped in a sienna brown hue and the interior with a light tan that contrasts well with the muted earthen colors used on the main motif. This type of imagery is often referred to as the "Anthropomorphic Mythical Being," a supernatural entity that can be interpreted as underworld deities or demons- shown here with a combination of feline and serpent aspects. Size: 6.75" Diameter x 2" H (17.1 cm x 5.1 cm)
