Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 400 CE. A male ceramic figure with a solemn visage comprised of boldly delineated large eyes framed by straight brows that lead to his curved, prominent nose, and cheeks adorned with red triangular tattoos. Strangely enough, he has no mouth and no arms - perhaps the artist intended to represent a silenced prisoner. Upon his triangular-shaped head and straight coiffure is a striped headdress. Otherwise, he only wears a loin cloth, though star motifs adorn his armless torso, and stripes are painted upon his slightly separated truncated legs. An intriguing figure that provides a glimpse of the punitive practices of the Pre-Columbian world. Custom stand. Size: 3.5" W x 8" H (8.9 cm x 20.3 cm) Size: 3.5" W x 8" H (8.9 cm x 20.3 cm); 8.5" H (21.6 cm) on included custom stand.
