Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A carved and crescent-shaped spondylus shell pendant shaped into a recognizable fish-like form. An oval-shaped head displays a single drilled eye and a slit-shaped mouth, and a small stylized pelvic fin rests beneath. The latter half is abstract in form but represents the back and tail of the animal. The entire figure boasts a smooth surface, with the front face showing a lovely red-orange color and the back a creamy yellow hue. Size: 2.25" L (5.7 cm).
