Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, ca. 250 to 800 CE. An endearing owl, hand carved from a beautiful greenstone of verdant hues with chocolate brown inclusions, its form presenting perforated eyes and beak, as well as meticulously delineated details - just look at the attention paid to the feathers on his wings and that incredible beak. The owl is a nocturnal bird that various Pre-Columbian cultures associated with earth, darkness, death, and the underworld. A fabulous piece, replete with strong technique and layers of symbolic meaning. Size: 2.125" L x 1.25" W (5.4 cm x 3.2 cm)
