Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 284 to 305 CE. A handsome bronze follis coin minted during the reign of Emperor Diocletian, set in a modern 18K gold bezel and strung on a colorful necklace of polished beads. The obverse of the coin bears a fine-profile portrait of Diocletian in laurel wreath, facing right, with an inscription. The reverse depicts the standing figure of Genius, the divine guardian spirit of the Roman people, holding a cornucopia and pouring libation. Strung on a strand of polished pink, green, and blue-green stones visually resembling tourmaline, though elemental analysis reveals that the beads are more likely alumino-silicate minerals or high-quality glass or synthetic materials designed to resemble tourmaline. Their striking color zoning and clarity lend them strong aesthetic appeal. A wearable relic of Roman imperial history and modern craftsmanship, ideal for collectors of ancient jewelry and coins alike. Size of strand: 18.5" L (47 cm); coin bezel: 0.9" Diameter (2.3 cm)

Provenance: Collection of Y. Kayvan, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from a Los Angeles, California, USA gallery acquisition dates range from the late 1990s to 2005
