Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. An eye-catching necklace strung with dozens of tubular and seed-form faience beads, each covered in blue-green glaze, as well as 14 spherical carnelian beads. Centered on the strand is a mold-formed and glazed faience pendant depicting Pataikos, the bow-legged dwarf god meant as a protector and a mitigator of violent natural forces. Size (necklace): 17" L (43.2 cm); (Pataikos pendant): 0.57" W x 1.37" H (1.4 cm x 3.5 cm)

  • Condition: Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Faience and carnelian components are ancient; stringing and metal components are modern. Minor nicks and pitting to some faience beads, with light abrasions to most beads, and softening to finer details of Pataikos pendant, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to glaze color and carnelian color.
