Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Mississippian, Mound Builders, ca. 900 to 1543 CE. A necklace strung with dozens of petite, white-hued snail shells from the ancient Mississippian Mound Builders. Each shell still retains much of its original spiraling form that creates a dazzling presentation. Size (necklace): 24.6" L (62.5 cm); (average shell size): 0.5" W x 0.7" H (1.3 cm x 1.8 cm)

  • Condition: Wearable as shown and strung in modern times. Shell beads are ancient; stringing is modern. Minor nicks and abrasions to some shell beads commensurate with age, with light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to shells.
