Western Europe, Italy or France, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. An enticing brass figure of a candlestick-bearing satyr with an ink stand in the manner of Renaissance artist Andrea Briosco called Riccio (Padua, 1470-1532). Sitting upon an up-turned scallop shell, the mythical creature holds a cornucopia surmounted by a thin-handled urn nozzle in his right hand, while a quatrefoil bowl is to his left, serving as the inkwell. Size: 4.25" L x 6" W x 8.25" H (10.8 cm x 15.2 cm x 21 cm); 10.6" H (26.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982

  • Condition: Missing horns and aperture in right leg and bowl of cornucopia suggesting possible repair. Light surface wear as shown, but otherwise mostly intact and excellent with rich patina throughout. Encrustations on interior of cornucopia from previous use. Set on modern marble stand via screws in base.
