A stunning Roman carnelian intaglio featuring the head of woman, likely a goddess, perhaps Hera (Roman Juno) queen of the gods, set in a Neoclassical 14 karat gold ring with floral relief decoration and inlaid blue enamel. The elegant deity faces right with a noble profile of bowed lips, a straight nose, and deep-set eyes, all crowned by a sizable tiara. Size of ring: 0.9" L x 0.8" W (2.3 cm x 2 cm); of intaglio: 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm); US ring size: 6.25; gold quality: 14 karats; weight: 16.3 grams

  • Condition: Ancient carnelian intaglio set in a Neoclassical gold ring to be wearable. Some minor nicks to intaglio but incised design is still clear. Softening to floral relief decoration and loss to blue enamel. Otherwise, intaglio and ring are in overall very good condition with nice remaining detail. Accompanied by modern custom ring box.
