Description:

Western Europe, Neoclassical, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely pendant made from dark green jasper or bloodstone flecked with deep red inclusions carved into a scarab intaglio set in a 58.31% (equivalent to 14K) gold swivel bezel. The ovoid insect features a domed and striated wing carapace folded atop the body, delineated legs with notched tips, a semicircular head, and a serrated frontal clypeus. This stone is set in a gold bezel lip that swivels on a pin set through the center and has a coiled wire arch and suspension ring. When turned over the reverse depicts a handsome horse, standing on a grassy ground to the left, alert, and fully tacked and saddled to ride. The pendant is strung on a modern cord with a lobster clasp as a handsome and fully wearable accessory.
