European, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th century CE. A magnificent and quite massive marble sculpture of a male bust, dressed in the Roman tradition with a draped toga fastened by an annular fibula on the right shoulder. A slender neck with clearly defined musculature rises form the cascading folds of the cloth that envelop the flat chest, indicating that the wearer was male. Note the rich red-orange hue of the toga, naturally adorned by gray and cream-colored striation and beautifully contrasted by the ivory tone of the figure's flesh. This sculpture likely once portrayed a Roman emperor or another figure from classical history. Size: 12" L x 22" W x 19" H (30.5 cm x 55.9 cm x 48.3 cm)
