Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mesoamerica, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A compact and evocative group of nine Mezcala greenstone amulets, each carved in the distinctive form of a stylized human head. Executed in softly mottled greenstone with natural mineral inclusions, the amulets vary subtly in shape and proportion while adhering to the disciplined abstraction characteristic of Mezcala lapidary work. Facial features are reduced to essential planes and drilled points, with eyes and mouths rendered as minimal marks rather than descriptive details. Perforations near the top of each head indicate suspension, suggesting use as personal amulets, garment attachments, or ritual adornments. The smoothed surfaces and worn edges reflect repeated handling and prolonged use. Size of largest: 1.2" W x 1.3" H (3 cm x 3.3 cm)

Together, this group offers a quietly powerful expression of Mezcala aesthetics, where stone is shaped into enduring symbols of belief, memory, and cultural continuity.
