Description:

Denmark or northern Europe, late Bronze age, ca. 1300-900 BCE. Cast in one piece with a long, straight tapering blade of triangular section, widening slightly at the shoulders and continuing into a flanged grip plate, the tang pierced with rivet holes for the attachment of organic handle scales, now lost. The guard area molded with a distinctive bossed panel ornament, the surface retaining a deep olive-green patina throughout. Weapons of this type belong to the late Bronze age traditions of the Nordic sphere, produced in Denmark and adjacent regions as prestige sidearms, frequently deposited in hoards or high-status burial contexts.
