Description:

Native American, central United States, Ohio, near Millersburg, Hopewell culture, Middle Woodland period, ca. 100 BCE to 400 CE. A fine example of a trapezoidal celt pendant that is hand-carved from mottled metamorphic hardstone of beige, brown, and dark grey hues. The broad peripheries taper to form the thick butt end opposite the acutely angled bottom edge, and a suspension hole is biconically drilled in a characteristic Hopewell style. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only. Size: 3.25" L x 1.875" W (8.3 cm x 4.8 cm)
