Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A hand-carved stone celt with an ovoid body, a thick shoulder, and a tapered edge. Atop the celt is an abstract anthropomorphic face, perhaps in the midst of a transformation, with uniform shoulders and a thick neck. The finely-detailed face boasts circular eyes, upturned lips, drilled mouth corners, and protruding ears, all beneath a rounded top. Size: 2" W x 4.375" H (5.1 cm x 11.1 cm); 4.875" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand.
