Central / South Asia, Northwestern India, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A magnificent zardozi embroidered textile, richly crafted on a base of blue, red, and beige velvet and lined with red satin. This opulent wall hanging showcases elaborate floral and geometric patterns worked in raised copper threads Embellished with a profusion of cabochons, most are glass with a scattering of colored stone cabochons, adding texture and sparkle throughout. At the heart of the design sits a large, faceted glass centerpiece that commands attention and draws the eye. Fringed with silvery metallic edging, one long and short side have additional loops for suspension on a wall as a tapestry. Zardozi is a historic form of textile embroidery that originated in Persia and flourished in India during the Mughal era, reaching its peak in the 16th and 17th centuries. Traditionally, artisans used real gold and silver threads to create intricate floral and geometric motifs, often adorning royal garments, ceremonial fabrics, and decorative hangings.
