Brand: Western Europe, France, Paris; Pants made in: Eastern Africa, Madagascar, ca. early 21st century CE. These dazzling high-waisted pants by Paco Rabanne capture the designer's celebrated blend of futurism and sensual allure. Made in Madagascar, the piece is crafted from 100% polyester mesh densely covered in sequins that shift in tone from luminous silver to molten gold, creating a mesmerizing ombre effect. The result is a garment that reflects light like liquid metal, a hallmark of Rabanne's avant-garde design language. Cut in a sleek, straight silhouette, the trousers elongate the form while maintaining clean architectural lines. Functional and fashionable details include a zip-fly closure and five press-stud snap buttons at the outer cuffs, allowing for subtle adjustment in flare. Logo-engraved silver-tone hardware enhances the luxe finish, while a soft partial stretch-jersey lining, composed of 73% polyamide and 27% elastane, ensures comfort and fluid movement. Size: French 38 / US 6; of inseam: 33.75" L (85.7 cm)
About the designer: "Born Francisco Rabaneda Cuervo in Pasaia, Spain, Paco Rabanne became one of the most innovative and provocative figures in 20th-century fashion. After fleeing the Spanish Civil War with his mother, a seamstress for Cristobal Balenciaga, Rabanne settled in France, where he studied architecture before turning to fashion design. In the 1960s, he rose to fame as an enfant terrible of Paris couture, crafting daring garments from metal, plastic, and paper. His futuristic, space-age creations challenged traditional ideas of beauty and wearability. Rabanne designed iconic looks for stars such as Francoise Hardy and Jane Fonda, including Fonda's shimmering costumes in the 1968 cult film "Barbarella."
Alongside his avant-garde fashion, Rabanne built a global fragrance empire in partnership with Puig, launching enduring classics such as "Calandre" (1969), "Paco Rabanne Pour Homme" (1973), "1 Million" (2008), and "Lady Million" (2010). His scents, like his designs, combined sensuality with innovation and became symbols of bold modernity. Known for his eccentric personality and mystical outlook, Rabanne viewed fashion as both art and prophecy. He received France's Legion of Honour in recognition of his creative contributions. Paco Rabanne died in 2023 at his home in Brittany at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of fearless experimentation and timeless style."
