Description:

East Asia, China, ca. late 19th early 20th century CE. A pair of well-preserved woven cane or rattan riding stirrups. Both constructed from strips of pliable reed or bamboo that are tightly interlacing and braided and a broad area to cup the rider's foot. Thick handles arch from the top of both, connected by a twisted and knotted vegetal fiber rope. Size: 6" L x 3" W x 8.5" H (15.2 cm x 7.6 cm x 21.6 cm)

Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection, acquired in the 1960s
