Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A lively pair of Jalisco pottery figures, two standing females with characteristically tall elaborately decorated headdresses, large ear ornaments, and boldly delineated features including pointy noses and ears - characteristic traits of so-called "sheepface" figures - all adorned in red slip with extensive white details. Two strong examples, one holding a bird on her shoulder, the other holding an unusual object, perhaps an instrument or a pestle, on her shoulder. Size: taller figure measures 4.875" H (12.4 cm)

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
