Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. A pair of carved stone seed pods, the larger made from a very dark green stone, the other from a black and brown stone, representing the seeds of Anadenanthera sp. (vilca), which some researchers have argued were the source of hallucinogenic snuff used during ceremonies at the great temple of Chavin de Huantar. Size: 2.7" W x 0.7" H (6.9 cm x 1.8 cm)
