Description:

East Asia, China, Song to early Yuan Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1368 CE. A pair of Qingbai lidded pottery funerary vessels, each with a tall slender neck rising from a bulbous body, coated in a soft bluish-white glaze characteristic of Qingbai ware. Encircling the neck of each vessel is a lively modeled dragon in high relief, its sinuous body winding upward with finely incised details to the claws and expressive head. Both vessels have conical lids. These vessels were likely used to hold grain and other offerings within a tomb or temple, combining elegant form with symbolic imagery of protection and power. Size: 5" W x 14.5" H (12.7 cm x 36.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-T.F. Holy Lands collection, formed since the 1960s
