Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Chupicuaro culture, ca. 500 BCE to 100 BCE. This lot is comprised of two lovely blackware, round bottomed vessels created by artisans of the Chupicuaro culture. Chupicuaro was a major ceramic center and produced some of the finest Mesoamerican pottery, praised for fine forms, finish, and decoration. These monochromatic pieces still show some nice burnishing. One shows a repeated pattern of incised diagonal lines encircling the shoulder and peforations for suspension. The other features four groups of appliqued diagonally positioned lozenge shapes, one pair mirroring the other on each side of the miniature hand built handles with holes for suspension. 6 1/8" D x 2 3/4"T (piece with handles); 5 3/4" D x 2 3/4"T
