Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A lovely ensemble of dozens of terracotta spindle whorls strung on a pair of modern strands to be wearable. Presenting hues of grey, sienna, taupe, black, and white, these wonderful beads exhibit a diverse array of forms, including spherical, conical, barrel, and tiered, and are each intricately incised with a broad range of motifs, such as linear, geometric, stippled, anthropomorphic, zoomorphic, and phytomorphic. Size of longest necklace: 54.5" L (138.4 cm); Size of largest bead: 0.5" L x 0.625" in diameter (1.3 cm x 1.6 cm)

  • Condition: Wearable as shown. Pottery beads are ancient, and stringing is modern. Small chips and abrasions to some beads, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to incised bead motifs.
