Ancient Egypt, Second Intermediate Period, 15th to 17th Dynasty, ca. 1674 to 1549 BCE (smaller); New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 18th to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1549 to 653 BCE (larger). A pair of faience glazed steatite scarabs. First, one depicting the pharaoh and royal cobra on its base, made to be a protective amulet for the living, and pierced laterally to be worn. Second, one with a cross / ankh pattern on the base. Also pierced laterally to be worn. Size of largest: 0.6" W (1.5 cm)

Provenance: ex Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; ex HD-Enterprise, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry, Cairo, Egypt, collected in the 1950s
