Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. A charming pair of effigy deer head vessels, the antlers curved inward to form handles. The warm orange surface has black pigment applied to the eyes and snout, and incised to create the nostrils and mouth. Revered for their nimble speed and quiet grace, deer were associated with stellar symbolism and played a recurring role in creation myths of many Pre-Columbian cultures. Size of larger vessel: 4" L x 6" W x 4.25" H (10.2 cm x 15.2 cm x 10.8 cm)

  • Condition: More petite head is inscribed "NIEVERIA" on interior of rim. Both have some minor, chips, nicks, and abrasions to surface as well as small areas of stable, hairline, surface fissures. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with nice remaining pigments and light earthen deposits to interiors.
