Description:

Southeast Asian, India, ca. 1700 to 1800 CE. Two bronze cages designed to hold crickets, with perforated bodies of sinuous form, hinged lids with pagoda-like crests, one perforated, the other solid. Crickets were considered good luck, and these would allow the owners to take their small companions with them wherever they went. The lids open up to allow ease of entry/exit. Larger example measures 3-3/8"W (8.57 cm) x 6"H (15.24 cm). Provenance: Ex-Sarkisian Gallery, Denver, CO, acquired before 1960. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108285

  • Condition: Lid of one is detached, but could easily be reattached with cord. Red pigment remains on larger example.
