Lot 130
Near East, Levantine region, Bronze Age, ca. 3000 to 1200 BCE. A quietly compelling pair of Levantine Bronze Age pottery bowls, each formed with broad, open profiles and gently rounded walls that settle into stable, well-balanced bases. The surfaces retain their original earthen character, ranging from pale buff to smoky gray, with fire clouds, mineral inclusions, and soft abrasions that speak to ancient firing conditions and long burial. Both bowls were shaped for everyday use, their simple geometry reflecting a deep understanding of function and proportion. Slight irregularities along the rims and subtle variations in wall thickness reveal the hand of the potter, while traces of interior wear suggest repeated handling and practical application, likely connected to food preparation, serving, or ritual consumption. Size of larger (gray): 6.5" Diameter x 4.4" H (16.5 cm x 11.2 cm)
Unadorned yet deeply expressive, these bowls embody the restrained aesthetic of Bronze Age Levantine ceramics, where utility and quiet beauty were inseparable. As a pair, they offer an intimate glimpse into daily life in the ancient Near East, objects once passed between hands, grounded in soil, fire, and routine, and now carrying that history forward in their weathered surfaces.
