Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Classic Period, 300 to 900 CE. A pair of pottery maskettes clearly handmade, with applied details. One is a human face with large spool earrings and a black-painted headdress (coiffure?); a long, curving, wide pottery hook extends from the back of the head and may have been used to hold the maskette or may be a monkey's tail. The other is a mammalian face, maybe a jaguar or a coyote, with spooled earrings, a necklace, and a similar pottery hook. Size: 3.5" L x 2.7" W x 2.25" H (8.9 cm x 6.9 cm x 5.7 cm)
