Description:

Rome, ca. 4th to 5th century CE. This is a pair of Roman redware pieces. The first is a simple flask with a nice shape and no decoration. It has a bulbous bottom and a slightly flared rim; this was most likely a flask for pouring oil or holding perfumes or unguents. The second is a fragment of a larger piece with a beautifully realistic fish in relief. Similar pieces to the latter are from Roman North Africa. Size: 2.75" W x 4.75" H (7 cm x 12.1 cm).

Provenance: Ex. M. Reiniger collection, Chicago, IL, Ex Jackson, Auctions, IA.
