Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Coast Peru, Ica Region, Paracas culture, ca. 500 BCE to 100 BCE. A hand-built ovoid bowl of red-brown terracotta, burnished on the exterior and incised on the interior with the image of a large stylized bird shown in profile with its head turned to the right. The surface is adorned with flowing linear and punctate motifs outlining the bird's wings and body. Size: 6.3" L x 5.5" W x 2.75" H (16 cm x 14 cm x 7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.

Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection; acquired from Arte Primitivo, New York; ex-Long Island, New York collection; ex-collection of Nancy and John Hyde Devoe, NYC and NJ, active 1950s-1970s.
