Lot 95
Central Asia, Iran (Persia), ca. mid-20th century CE. A woven silk rug of exceptional density and craftsmanship, likely originating from the celebrated weaving workshops of Qom. The field presents a rich, symmetrical medallion design rendered in deep reds, ivory, blue, and green, surrounded by floral arabesques and framed by an intricate multi-band border. The high knot density - about 23 knots horizontally (per inch) and 23 knots vertically (per inch), is approximately 529 knots per square inch - and the fineness of weave allows for crisp articulation of its curvilinear motifs and elegant detail throughout. The back displays the high-resolution structure typical of Qom workshop output, underscoring both the precision and prestige of its construction. This is a flawed gem - and will require professional cleaning, but very worthy of restoration and display. Size: 103" L x 60" W (261.6 cm x 152.4 cm)
Provenance: private Las Vegas, Nevada, USA collection

#195165
- Condition: Overall in poor to fair condition due to long-term storage, but has great protentional. The rug requires professional cleaning prior to use or display, as there is a noticeable odor and evidence of rodent damage, including chewing to one corner, some staining, and fraying at two additional edge areas. Some dye bleeding onto the fringe. Despite these issues, the central field remains tightly woven with a pleasing luster to the fibers. With expert cleaning and perhaps restoration to the corner, this piece has strong potential to be significantly improved and brought back to a more presentable condition.
