Description:

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A diminutive scarab amulet that is mold-formed from creamy honey-yellow faience bearing remains of brilliant blue glaze. The insectile topside features a folded wing carapace, a tapered head with a frilled clypeus, and slender legs tucked beneath the body. The underside bears three hieroglyphic symbols that include a right-facing duck, a sun disk, and a feather of Ma'at (or feather of truth). The duck was symbolic of the waterways of ancient Egypt, and this symbolism is further substantiated by the blue glaze remains within the recessed avian symbol. Size: 0.375" L x 0.25" W (1 cm x 0.6 cm)
