Description:

North America, Western United States, Nevada, Hubbard Basin, Miocene era, ca. 23 to 5 million years ago. This remarkable slab of petrified wood has been cut and polished on one face to reveal a swirling tapestry of colors - earthy hues of gray-blue, ochre, white, and maroon. Formed through a natural process of permineralization, this specimen preserves the fine details of the ancient wood, including growth rings, knots, and grain textures. As sediment rapidly buried the wood and prevented decay, silica-rich groundwater gradually infiltrated its structure, replacing it with quartz and chalcedony over millions of years. Several natural voids and cavities remain in the slab's interior, some delicately lined with tiny crystals that sparkle under light. Both scientifically significant and visually stunning, this polished petrified wood serves as a captivating display of geologic time and aesthetic beauty. Size: 13.5" L x 0.3" W x 7" H (34.3 cm x 0.8 cm x 17.8 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.
